Learning new skills every day

On Friday, we had our latest check-up for the Children's Hospital preemie study Charlie is in. The developmental specialist suggested we work on his language skills. I guess he heard her, because all of a sudden, he has begun to EXPRESS himself. Check it out - but turn down the volume on your computer first...

This is not our favorite development, but we're glad he's learning to assert himself.

The doctor said she thinks he acts more like a 6 month old than a 9 month old (his adjusted age) developmentally, because he's not talking or showing signs of much language recognition yet, and his motor skills are not as refined as they would expect. But they were glad to see him continuing to get stronger, and we just need to hope his development will continue at the rate its going now. They won't be overly concerned unless they start to notice his development curve flattening out. So we'll just keep working!

We had a fun weekend - we celebrated the impending arrival of my friend Lauren's third baby on Saturday night, and Sarah and Laura came to town for the occasion. Charlie was showered with lots of attention, not to mention birthday gifts! Here's a picture of Charlie with his visitors:

We took Charlie to the park on Saturday to see Beth, Lauren, and Britt's girls - 6 little girls for Charlie to play with! He's still a little young to get much joy from the park, but it was so fun to see those sweet girls.

Then on Monday, his Nana, Aunt Patti, and cousins Lydia and Caleb came for a quick visit. He loved seeing them!

Here's Charlie just before bath time - I can't resist snapping the occasional photo of his tush.

NOTHING is cuter than baby tushy. Nothing.

Hey, a belated (sorry!) wish: "Happy Birthday, Charlie!" What a year you three have had! Congratulations! And best wishes for that "miracle baby" walk! You certainly have much to celebrate.

Much love,
Claire
