School birthday celebration

Guess who woke up at the crack of dawn this morning with no fever, raring to go?  Yep, you guessed it, Charlie did!  I was a little disappointed by the 6:15 wake-up call on my day off, but very glad Charlie was feeling in tip-top shape. He got to start his day with some playing, then a bath, and then he got dressed and headed to school.

Shortly thereafter, we arrived with the morning treat for the kids, cupcakes. Sugar-loading at 9:45, no less, but that’s what time the teacher requested we be there. And the kids were definitely not put off by the fact that their breakfasts had hardly settled – they were excited for cupcakes!

Charlie was a little confused by us being there, and by all the attention. He cried when they sang him happy birthday! And I don’t think they were tears of joy…

Sorry for the foggy photos – Charlie got his greasy little hands on my camera last night, and I’m not sure it’s ever going to be the same.

Anyway, after some singing, we enjoyed cupcakes and a little time with the kiddos. Most amusing part of the morning for me (other than the b’day tears) was when he said no to the cupcakes I slaved over (well, slaved might be an exaggeration, considering these were box specials) in favor of some Nilla wafers.  At least he asked for them by speaking a full sentence: “I want cookie please.”  He came back around for a cupcake before it was all said and done.

This afternoon, once he wakes from his nap, we’re hoping he’ll want to attack his pile of presents:

I have a suspicion that he’s going to take one look at his new bubble mower and the rest of the gifts will have to wait!  Or maybe I’m just more excited about it than he will be – we’ll see!

More birthday photos to come, assuming he cooperates.
