What a trooper!

George and I arrived in the NICU tonight just in time to see Charlie get a bath. It was a sponge bath, so he wasn't out of his isolette, but they took him off the C-PAP so they could wash his little face and head, and kept it off while they scrubbed the rest of him. The little guy breathed on his own for about 15 minutes! We were really impressed. Dad got lots of video of Charlie bathing, so hopefully that'll be available for viewing soon.
All of the cultures they did on Charlie after his scary episode on Saturday have come out negative, and his CRP, which was previously elevated indicating infection, is now back to normal. Our mystery man has confounded them again - no one is quite sure what's going on with him. They are still not feeding him, so hopefully whatever's going on with his bowels will clear up and he'll continue to breathe well, and they can reintroduce feedings. The lack of milk doesn't seem to be causing Charlie too much harm, as he hit 1500 grams tonight (3'5")!

Charlie looks great! Loved to see him batting away the nurse's hand trying to re-insert his tube. What a guy!

Marie and George,
You probably can't imagine how good it is to be able to tune in each day and get an update on Charlie (and on you two!). Thank you so much for taking the time to give all of us the news. You do have quite an amazing dude...whew! Hang in...he's certainly doing his part, too!

Much love,
Claire
