Charlie says the funniest things. He’s into grabbing and playing with things that aren’t necessarily toys – he’s at that age where he has to touch everything. Often, he’s not even sure what the thing is, he’s just excited about it. This morning, he grabbed a jewelry cleaning cloth I just got, unwrapped it from it’s package, and said excitedly, “I got this!” Then he held it in front of his face and said “Look at me Daddy!” It’s just funny to see him get so excited about a little piece of cloth.
Again, as we should expect I guess, Charlie is covered in mosquito bites. We spray him when we’re outside in the evenings, but they still get him. He woke up yesterday morning with 4 on one calf, several on the other, and one on his ear. All I can think is one got in the house and camped out in his bed for the night, nibbling. Now he’s telling everyone about his “boo boos”, which he also calls his “eschimo bites”.
Charlie’s figured out the concept of later, and uses it to try to get out of anything we want him to do that he isn’t in the mood for. For instance, he’s been potty training this week, and Pamela has had lots of success with him – but he refuses to use the potty for us. He’s constantly trying to throw us off by saying, “Use potty later”. Somehow, later just never seems to arrive.
He’s starting that age where he finds gross things really funny. He thinks he’s telling a joke when he says, “Gonna pick a nose” and sticks his finger up his nose. He really isn’t interested in actually picking his nose, just in the reaction he’s going to get. I try not to give him one, but that’s hard when he’s doing it in public.
After his 4th of July sickness, we all came down with strep throat. George and I were feeling pretty rough the first night after we were diagnosed, but Charlie was on the mend pretty much instantly, and amused himself by jumping on top of us as we sat on the couch like bumps on a log. This kid has boundless energy!
We went to an old school barber shop (seriously old school, the youngest barber there is probably in his 60s) last weekend to get Charlie’s hair cut. They were all business, clipped off all of his curls, and then gave him a lollipop that was probably at least a couple of years old. He looks so grown up now!
On Wednesday, we’ll start the long drive up to northern Michigan, to spend a week with my parents. Our visit will overlap with Katie, Brent and Ann’s visit, and we’ll also get to see some of my aunts, uncles, and cousins. We’re very excited to get away – it’s been a long time since we’ve taken a vacation!
