Christmas with Gram Lamb and Papa Rex:

So Christmas was great – I just haven’t had a chance to write about it until now.  We did make it, only a day late, once Charlie’s fever went away. Unfortunately all of the mucus in his chest and nose didn’t, and he had a hacking cough much of the trip, and a couple dramatic bloody noses – but he acted like it didn’t bother him at all. Unfortunately, it bothered us a little, since any milk drinking resulted in him getting sick. And this kid LOVES milk, I mean seriously loves it.  I heard, “Muk, muk, muk, pease, pease” through much of the long weekend. So sad to have to keep saying no, no, drink your gatorade. As a side note, how many parents have to tell their kids they can’t have milk and beg them to drink gatorade?

The first night we were there, we had drinks at the house of our (Katie’s and my) sixth grade science teacher. She and her husband have also retired in Lexington, and it was so fun to see her. She was a great teacher – and had the unfortunate luck to have to teach, amongst other things, sex ed to a bunch of immature 11-12 year olds. I distinctly remember her telling us we should just repeat the word “penis” over and over again while soaping up, so that we wouldn’t be embarrassed when we had to talk about it in class. I’m sure she would love to know that’s my lasting memory of sixth grade science.  Anyway, it was nice to get to see her and her family.

Katie, Brent, and Ann were also at my parents’ house for Christmas. It was so fun to all be together.  Charlie LOVES his grandparents (though he still can’t say anything approximating Gram, he says Papa often) and LOVES his Aunt Kee-Kee, Uncle Meat (we LOVE his name for Uncle Brent) and Ann. Ann talks circles around him and likes to tell him what they’re going to do, which is funny. As soon as we got there, she was saying, “Chahyee, come see this” or “Chahyee, come play”.  So cute.

Christmas morning was pretty funny. Santa brought Ann a stroller for her baby, and Charlie really liked her stroller. Every time she turned her back, he would race off with it. He wasn’t really into opening gifts – he opened a few, but we also brought several back still wrapped, and he just opened his last one today (and that doesn’t include the ones we decided to put away until his birthday). He gets overwhelmed pretty easily, so all the excitement and activity was a little much for him. When he wasn’t trying to steal Ann’s stroller, he was sitting in my lap just kind of taking it all in.

Christmas afternoon was funny too – it snowed on Christmas, and Katie, Brent, George and I decided to do some sledding. My parents live at the top of a very long hill, and some of us are still recovering from the stiff necks we got when we flipped our sleds. There’s quite a bit of video of us flying down the hill, screaming and laughing. Nothing like acting like teenagers while the kiddos napped!

Here are a few photos from all the holiday fun:
