Across the globe, 13 million premature babies are born every year, and not all parents are as lucky as George and I are, watching our sweet boy learn and grow and thrive. We are so thankful for the doctors and nurses at George Washington University Hospital who fought long and hard for our tiny warrior baby, and for the March of Dimes and their extensive research into the causes and treatment of prematurity.
On a lighter note, we celebrated Halloween this weekend with our little “land shark”. We tried his costume on for the first time Friday evening. He quickly decided he was not a fan:
On Saturday, we gave it another try, this time just donning his “jacket” to go to Meowloween! For those unfamiliar with Meowloween, it was an event that a cat rescue organization put on, and it involved a giant pen full of kitties that Charlie was allowed to enter. We were a little worried for the kittens, but Charlie was very sweet and gentle with them. I was VERY tempted to bring one home (there was a tiny black one that spent a lot of our time there curled up in my lap or in George’s), but my husband decided it is not the right time. Probably a good thing, since Charlie’s pretty wild these days. Last night we were “play” wrestling, and he accidentally head-butted me and gave me a bloody nose. So a tiny kitten might not last long in our romper room…
On Sunday, we cajoled Charlie into his shark top again, to do a quick run by a couple of neighbors. He decided that while he would wear it, he would NOT get out of the stroller and he would NOT talk to the neighbors (who he knows and is generally friendly with) and he would NOT reach into anyone’s bowl for candy. So much for our plans to get him into show biz – clearly, he has decided he does not like to be on display. Oh well – after 3 houses, we decided we’d be just as happy sitting on the porch letting kids come to us. Maybe we’ll do more actual trick-or-treating next year!
He has gotten very good at pumpkin patch activities – we took him to two different patches the weekends before Halloween, and then his school took him on a field trip to a third last week. Pamela went and chaperoned; here are a few photos of the fun on Charlie’s first field trip:

I hope everyone had a great Halloween!
