breathing on his own

Charlie had a great weekend. Both Gram and Uncle Mike got to hold him for the first time, which was exciting! Charlie also spent all day today breathing on his own! Around 8 this morning, one of our favorite nurses, Ladee, took his C-PAP - and when we left at 10 p.m. tonight, he was still C-PAP free. George and I each got to bottle feed him today, and he took around 20 ccs during each bottle feed. Everyone is really proud of how well Charlie is doing! They've got an open crib lined up and ready for him, so once he's got the breathing well underway, then they can give the crib a try so Charlie can work on maintaining his temperature.

The next step for us is to get Charlie's room in order. It seems like his homecoming isn't so far away anymore, so we need to turn our spare room into a real nursery. We have received so many great gifts and loaners, so Charlie will be set once we have a chance to spend some time organizing! We just received 2 beautiful quilts that his Great Aunt Liz made him, one of which includes fabric printed with "miracle baby" - pretty appropriate!
