Today was orientation at Stratford Landing Elementary, where Charlie’s going to be in preschool beginning next week. I was excited to meet his teacher and see his classroom, but a little curious/nervous about how he would handle it. Pamela and I went together with him, since she’ll be doing most of the drop-offs and pick-ups and needed to see the school too. I thought that might make it worse, since he’s so attached to her as well. When we first got there, we went to the library to meet a few of the teachers, and then were sent down to his classroom to drop him off so we could go back and complete paperwork. I figured it was going to be a long, drawn out good-bye process, possibly with some tears and clinging…but to my surprise, as soon as we got into the classroom, he made a beeline for the toys and didn’t give us a second look! He didn’t even notice when we left the room. And when we went back to get him a half hour or so later, he was happily playing and chattering away, and the aide watching the classroom said he was the happiest kid there! It’s a relief; I was nervous about how the first day next week was going to go, but now I think I have a lot less to worry about! His teacher and the assistant teacher are so nice, the classroom is FULL of toys and fun things for Charlie to explore, and I think he’ll really enjoy being with the other kids.
I didn’t get any photos pre-orientation today, but I did get some photos of him tonight running around in just a diaper. He’d gotten really hot during his nap, and then I took him for a long walk in the stroller, so after his bath, I let him run around without his jammies for a little while, to cool down. He loved it!
