School! Sort of...

Charlie's first day of classroom-based therapy was yesterday. The private therapy is over, and he's now in a "Pathways to Preschool" program to help get him ready to start real preschool in September. It's only an hour a week, and with a parent or caregiver. Pamela took him to his first session - I have to take him to the eye doctor and the developmental specialist next week, and George is taking him to class the following week when Pamela's in Peru, and then we'll be on vacation... so neither of us felt that we should take the time off work for this one. It's hard not to be at every event in his little life, but work is busy and this kid requires a LOT of off-time!

As Pamela and George were getting Charlie ready for class yesterday morning, they swore it sounded like Charlie said "Got to go, big day". I'm pretty sure that's not exactly what he said, but he makes lots of noises that sound like words, so maybe that is what he was saying. Pretty funny! When Pop and Libbie were here for a visit, Libbie said she heard him ask "Where'd Pop go?" so maybe the problem is just my hearing, and he's saying a lot more than I know!

Pamela said Charlie did well in class. There were only 3 kids (including Charlie), and one of them screamed through much of the class and hit his mom a lot. It makes me so sad for that mom t0 hear that, since we've had incidents (luckily not many) where Charlie has melted down and screamed and hit, and it's so hard when it happens. My heart just goes out to her, and I hope she has better luck next week! Luckily, Charlie behaved well - apparently they were impressed at how he listened to and followed instruction. He wasn't so good at sitting in place to play (not a surprise - we can't get him to sit still for more than about 2 minutes at a time, unless we read book after book). He got to play with Play Doh, but he got scolded for trying to carry it around the room instead of sittting at the table to play with it. This, also, is no surprise - the kid loves to tote things around. This is why his puzzles are missing pieces and there are cooking implements all over the house, and we lose our keys constantly. Overall, though, it sounds like it was a success. And Pamela loved taking him - she was really excited about it. Have I mentioned how much we love her??

We're looking forward to a nice, quiet weekend this weekend - hope you have a good one!
