The March for Babies

THANK YOU!! We raised $1500 for our March of Dimes team, Charlie's Champions! It felt great to be able to raise that much money for a cause that help families like ours every day - and is working to prevent others from going through the experience we did.

The walk was on Sunday morning, and considering there are 5 or 6 March for Babies walks in the DC metro area, I was really impressed by how many people came out for the Alexandria-Springfield event. There were so many kids around, which kept Charlie very entertained. It was reassuring to see so many kids who had been born early and were doing well, and emotional to see the t-shirts commemorating babies that didn't make it.

After I shared Charlie's story, a man came up to congratulate us on Charlie's success. He had a little girl in a baby carrier on his chest, but it wasn't until he turned around that I noticed the message on his shirt, stating he was walking in memory of twin boys lost in 2008. I am always so proud of Charlie, and try to focus on his successes, but I will admit sometimes I do get caught up in the things he's not doing yet, the developments that he hasn't yet reached. The walk served as a valuable reminder that Charlie is a success story regardless of any minor delays he might have, and we need to celebrate how far he's come every day.
As we were leaving the tent to start the walk, who did we see but Jay LaMonica, who had come by to join us on the walk. It was so nice of him to come show his support - what a great surprise!
Here are some photos from the big day. The first one looks off-kilter, but in reality, George was catching Charlie in the foreground with me way in the background giving my mission speech.

Charlie's feeling a little under-the-weather at the moment. Some of it may be related to teething (yes, he's FINALLY getting a tooth!), but something is going on with his stomach too, so it's hard to tell. He fell asleep on my shoulder tonight, which is a clear sign he's feeling puny - usually he won't be still enough to fall asleep until we put him into his crib and turn the lights out on him. If he has to be sick, at least it means I get some snuggle time!

Charlie is getting so big!!! Brayden had the same stomach thing when he was getting his teeth. I've heard its pretty common (although I have no idea how those are related).

I am glad that the walk was such a success and that you enjoyed it so much! Congratulations on the tooth, I am sure that the rest will not be far behind. You have a lot to look forward to over the next several months (and years). I am amazed at your ability to always look on the positive side, which has really manifested itself over the past year, so if you get caught up in stuff, it's hard to tell! A lot of other folks could learn from your example.
