So today started out badly for me - I realized when I was almost at the office on the bus that I'd left my pump at home. The lack of sleep is clearly affecting my brain these days! But things got better after a busy morning that included a cab ride to pick up the pump. My co-workers surprised me with a baby shower, which I had no idea about. It was so nice - the conference room was decorated with pictures of Charlie that had been printed from the blog. I, of course, can't think of much better decoration! Charlie was showered with wonderful gifts and it was just such a nice surprise.
The evening, however, was the kicker! When Charlie was first born, they did a routine cystic fibrosis test on him, and it came back inconclusive. Apparently that isn't so rare, so they weren't overly concerned, and did a second one. Unfortunately, the second one came back inconclusive also, which meant they needed to draw blood for a different kind of diagnostic test. Charlie had gotten a blood transfusion recently, so they couldn't do the test right away - which meant the agony of waiting. That was a few weeks ago, and we've been anxious ever since. We don't know of any CF in our families, but it's a genetic disorder and both parents have to be carriers for the child to be born with it, so it often skips generations - meaning we were nervous. But tonight we finally got the result of the test back and it was NEGATIVE!! We are thrilled.
Charlie's making wonderful progress. Today he took all his feedings from the bottle, instead of being tube fed - just one step closer to coming home! He's got big chubby cheeks and gets cuter every day!

Marie you deserve every bit of that shower and wonderful surprise. You are amazing! I am so proud to call you my sister in law. Charlie is a lucky little boy.

While we can't claim any of you as a sister-in-law, brother-in-law, or nephew, we're still equally proud of you three! Three cheers! And yes, kiss those chubby cheeks for us, too!
